Build a menu

Parsley is not the register. Square or Toast takes the order. Cookbook is the kitchen’s copy of what you sell, so tickets, prep, waste, and profit point at the same dish.

If a POS line is not linked to a product, it still shows on Orders. Prep, waste, and profit skip it.

Two kinds of rows

Recipes — what you make. Dough ball, house sauce, shredded mozz. Each line is an inventory SKU and an amount. Costs come from Store → Costing → Inventory.

Products — what you sell. Cheese Pizza 18". Attach the recipes used per item sold.

One Square variation or one Toast item = one product. Do not hang two sizes on the same product.

Why the POS id matters

Parsley matches the id on the order line, not the words on the ticket.

SquareVariation idImport from Square, or paste by hand
ToastItem GUIDPaste on the product (no import)

Square often names a size Regular. The SKU or weight is the size (18"). Put that in the Parsley name — that is what the cook sees.

A Square category id or parent item id will not match. Toast add-ons use Toast catalog links, not the product’s item GUID.

Set it up

  1. Inventory — SKUs and unit costs (flour, cheese, etc.).
  2. Cookbook → Menu → Recipes — add prep recipes and link those SKUs.
  3. Connect Square or Toast under Store → Setup → Point of sale.
  4. Cookbook → Menu → Products
    • Square: Load Square catalogImport selected. Confirm Square linked.
    • Toast: add the product, paste the item GUID.
    • Name it for the cook (Cheese Pizza 18").
    • Attach recipes (1× dough, 1× sauce, …).
    • Turn on Weekly par for items you schedule.
  5. Store → Plan → Weekly planner — counts per weekday.
  6. Ring a test order. Orders should show the product name. Complete it when it leaves the pass.

After import or a paste, open tickets rematch. You do not need a new sale just to fix the kitchen line.

What that gets you

After you…You get
Map the POS idKitchen name on Orders
Add recipes + inventory costsFood cost on the product
Weekly par + complete ticketsWaste (planned vs sold)
Complete tickets with a POS line totalProfits (ticket $ minus food, labor, and overhead)

Waste and profit use completed tickets only.

The dollar on the Square or Toast ticket line is sold revenue. You do not need a catalog list price in Square or Toast for that. An optional Sell price on the product is for the plan marker (“40 × $18”) and for old tickets that never stored a line total.

If it looks wrong

  • Product shows Square linked or has a Toast GUID.
  • Recipes are attached; inventory SKUs have costs.
  • Weekly par is on; Plan has a count.
  • Test ticket is mapped, then completed.

Fields: Menu. Connect: Point of sale. Queue: Orders. Profit: Profits.
